This site will close down in September this year, please make sure that any important private messages are backed up and that you have saved any images you may need/want.  I'm closing the site due to lack of support and I would like to do other things with my spare time rather than waste it on a stagnant website.

I understand how you feel Sam and I apologize but I just don't see any point keeping a site open that nobody uses, we generally have more bots online than users, I reckon the fat lady has sung her last tune!

I've not been able to post for some time. I've visited and tried but couldn't. I wonder if this is part of the reason that there's been so few posts lately.
I tried replying to this announcement just after you posted it Shane and again I wasn't allowed. I don't even know if this post will work but here goes...

Edit: Well it worked this time! (obviously! lol)
I was prompted to do a few things on my last visit, as I was more determined than ever after reading this announcement but still couldn't post.

Thanks for all your past efforts Shane, even though we might not always agree. Good luck with your future "untetherred"

Thank you for thanking me Warwick :)

I'm just one of those difficult people in life, I know it but sometimes it's easier to go with the flow than change.. My intentions were mostly good but I admit I ran off the rails more than a few times over the years. Good luck with your future adventures in life.

I had the same problem, couldn't log in for months, then couldn't post. Gave up trying eventually (thought it was because of my gmail address). If other people were experiencing this problem, that would certainly account for a large portion of the drop in activity.

Real shame, this place has been the only decent herp forum around for ages. Now where do we go? Some other crAPSy forum? NOT! ARK was my browser's home page for years!

I understand your point though Shane, it must be a lot of work running this baby, and it certainly has quietened down.

Yeah you can be a difficult bugger at times, but it just shows you have a passion for what you're doing!

Anyway, as for that Fat Lady, maybe if we stuff her full of food she'll sing a bit longer?

Either way, thanks for keeping this place going for so long, your effort is REALLY appreciated. Sad day for the Aussie Herp community.

-Damien

I just signed up to post here.

Is there anything that can be done to prevent this site from closing? Can someone else take over the responsibility?

I'm a very long-time lurker, and I guess that people like me are part of the problem.

I'd hate to see the site closed down, as would many others obviously Sad

It's all well and good not wanting the site to close but any site is only as good as it's members.Without support by it's members  (adding decent content) then what is the point?

As Mark said - it's up to the members to add content, comments and generally visit to comment on others posts. Moderators can only do so much, we all feel the same but also we understand that without regular support the site will just fade out.

I acknowledged this point in my post, so I obviously agree with you.

It is a shame, and I for one regret that I did not contribute as I should have. I tend to lurk on forums, as I generally manage to get into arguments as I can be intolerant of inexperienced keepers that don't do the necessary research. Anyway, no excuse really, but I am sorry to see this place go.

Hello Shane,

Aw, that is really too bad!  Though I am in the US & things weren't always relevant to me, I enjoyed reading the comments about news in Australia & learning about new species as well as contributing to discussions in the Bearded dragon area.
There are a lot of great people on here.  Sorry to see a nice site go, as there are not all that many good quality reptile sites on the web.

Good luck in your endeavors.  My husband & I will make it to Australia, one of these days.

Thanks for a great site. Very Happy

Tracie

The site achieved some very positive things as well. There was the Hoser thing. I would count that as a win for Shane and the site. Little else came from others in the community who even went as far as not allowing debate on the issue. there was also the untimely parting of friend and mentor to many of us, Tim Nias. Through the site we raised money for his family and the Leukemia Foundation. We some raised some money for the antivenom project in PNG. There are other things as well.
I think we can be proud of the achievements of this site.
Well done Shane.

Peter
